I've literally always listened to music primarily on Spotify, so I was very excited for them to reveal your most played artist of the decade. I got Taylor Swift, followed by Carrie Underwood, shocking everyone who's ever noticed that all my captions/short novellas about them don't quite follow iambic pentameter and thus concluded I must be more of a Kendrick Lamar guy. I've always wondered what happened to my December listening, though, since they presumptuously reveal your end of year statistics on December 5. I looked it up and it's worse than I ever feared: December's not even added on next year; it's vanquished entirely, and November, too! (November's skipped because "this gives our teams enough time to assemble everything," something I really thought happened automatically and am now vaguely concerned about. Is somebody looking at a punch card wondering if you seriously listened to all of Hollywood's Bleeding three times in one day?)
Spotify also has another site featuring personalized statistics, Spotify.me. This site's evidently hardcore enough to tell me, "Based on the playlists in your library, we’re guessing you’re a great parent. Or you just have a youthful spirit and enjoy a good lullaby." Look, if you seek out the real statistics, they're not going to soft-pedal the reality of your bland, basic habits: "60% of your favorite artists are within your most-listened to genre. Did you know there are over 1500 genres available on Spotify?" "We can’t seem to find any chill music in your recent streaming history. What’s it like living life at a 10?" Never ask for the truth. The Ark of the Covenant was open and I was staring straight at it. But there was something else in there too: That page said my actual most played artist of all time was Kendrick Lamar (presumably followed by Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood.) Now I'm just confused about everything, except that apparently Bad Blood was a big moment for me.
I had never made it to the Colesseum in my previous time in Rome, which is a real shame because it knocked my pants off. Going in the off season is HIGHLY recommended. I downloaded and listened to the @ricksteveseurope guided tour on my phone, and they kept mentioning how insane the lines would be and gave you things to look at while you, inevitably, sat there with your thumb in your butt. But going in November? I was inside in about 45 seconds and got to enjoy the 68 degree Mediterranean weather.
One thing that struck me was Rick's explanation as to why the Roman people loved watching this insane violence so much. Countless animals and people were killed there, and the people loved it. Besides the obvious (people's lizard brains love bloodshed), it meant a lot more to the average Roman. It was a perfect encapsulation of the zeitgeist of the time. Rome was building an Empire, and this was a way for people totally removed from that to be a part of the most incredible empire the world had ever seen. The best gladiators in the world were superstars, which is perfect glorification for the military might that was winning these new lands and glory. Exotic animals were brought from faraway lands, like tigers from Africa, and bears from the north, which was one of the best ways for people to comprehend these exotic places they'd only heard of. And finally, the emperor, often allowing the people to decide the fate of someone's life at the end of a fight, well that was a level of control most people in the cheap seats had never experienced. I typed all of this with the blood of many exotic animals dripping down my jowels. #colosseum#colosseo#thecolosseum#rome#roma#italytravel#italy#italy 🇮🇹 #italy_vacations#visitroma#visitrome#sunset#beautifuldestinations#beautifulplaces#beautifulsunset#lighting#lightingdesign#wandering_around_world#aroundtheworldwithyou#ilovetravellingtheworld#ilovetravelling ✈️ #aroundtheworld 🌎 #igtravelbook#aroundtheworldbeauty#tripwithfriends#traveler_stories#travelerlife#discoveringtheworld
If you had asked me a few years ago if I’d go swimming with whale sharks I would of slapped you for asking such a ridiculous question. Not even because of the whale sharks, I think they’re awesome but just being in the ocean... nah, weren’t for me. Fast forward a few years, you can’t keep me out.

The experiences I’ve found myself in through my adventures over the years have allowed me to challenge myself mentally and psychically, sometimes you just gotta take that leap in order to fly.
S/O to my homie, the incredible photographer @tristankermode who captured this moment. This dude is so ridiculously talented I genuinely can’t wait for you all to see what he creates with all this content.
