The history of the trulli is linked to the Prammatica De Baronibus, an edict of the 15th-century Kingdom of Naples that subjected every new settlement to a tribute. In 1481 the Counts of Conversano D'Acquaviva D'Aragona from 1481, owners of the territory of Alberobello, then imposed on the residents that they built their dwellings dry, without using mortars, so that they could be configured as precarious buildings and easily demolished.
Having to use only stones, the peasants found in the round form with self-supporting domed roof the simplest configuration. The roofs were embellished with decorative pinnacles representing the signature of the architect (master trullaro). Photo credit- @unsplash
One day soon.... Being outdoors has been a saving grace this week. Just getting into the backyard has been a sanity saver for us. How is your week?
This photo was from a camping trip a few years back to Estes Park, Colorado. This was a private campground just outside @rockynps. Our campsite was just next to these teepees and that sunrise was worth everything!! Until we can truly camp again, we started camping at home in the backyard or when weather is really bad, indoors in a tent or blanket fort. I talked to a few friends and we are hosting #campathomesaturday all this month.
Join us in this virtual camp out and share your pictures using the hashtag. Camping is more fun with friends!

When traveling to different countries, you'll see a lot of local artisans who made crafts, clothes, etc. with their bare hands - especially indigenous peoples. When tourists visit and bargain so low, sometimes they still think it's still expensive for whatever handicrafts they have laid their eyes on. There are some overpriced ones, but there are some reasonable ones too.
Neogitation may be part of some cultural norms but many often fail to realize how much work it takes for artisans to make these handicrafts. How many hours they worked for this. The family that they have to take care of. The neglect they face from their own government/community. The goals that they have. They have a life too, it's not just about the lives of tourists or visitors.
Truth to be told, when I first backpacked many years ago, I've realized that I've bargained to the extent that they do not make a lot of profit to make a living. The more I travel, the more I realized how they've been taken for granted in so many ways. I learned from my mistakes and no longer bargain too hard.
Look at the work they've put into these handicrafts you're looking at. In this picture, look at these colorful threads that are beautifully sewed onto a jacket that I've bought in my parents' motherland, Mexico. I don't dare to negotiate so much on this jacket, because it is a lot of work! She deserves respect as a human being too.

Self-isolating for coronavirus has made me miss the things I have taken for granted, including travel and seeing Kara (who is so very far away in another county right now)!! Looking back over our old travel photos has made me feel the joy of traveling all over again, and I know that we’ll be back out on the road as soon as it’s safe for us to go! Happy Friday, all — stay safe and healthy ❤️

𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘴: 𝐕𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟑
Watch our stories tomorrow for a 𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦/𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫! (& if you missed the first two episodes they’re on our highlights)
We’ll cover the ever so popular clothing topic/questions, as well as details on our bed ❤️
You might be surprised at how much (or 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦 🤷🏻♀️) clothing we were able to keep (if it’s not in our van we no longer own it). We will also share how we keep our clothes organized to have all seasons of clothing stored away/ready to use 👚👕👔👗👙
And, everyone loves to sleep in their own bed. So we had to make sure ours was comfy and would always feel like “home.” 🛌
In the mean time...Who do you think has 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 in the van?! 😏

We received the following from Dirt's Vet today. A few weeks ago Dirt got some teeth pulled, very common with older cats.
Dear Nevada Northern Railway AKA Dirt’s Humans,
I want to thank you all so much for all of the wonderful gifts you delivered when you brought Dirt to the clinic. You have no idea how excited my son was not only for the gifts, but to get to help comfort Dirt during his procedure. He has been talking about it for weeks and tells me all the time how much he loves Dirt. He truly is a special Kitty.
I am very impressed with your dedication to Dirt’s care as well as your acknowledgement of how remarkable the human-animal bond can be.
Thank you so much for thinking of my son and for trusting me with Dirt’s medical needs. You made quite the impression and it is something both of us will never forget. We look forward to being able to visit this summer and ride the train!
We hope all of you are healthy and safe during these difficult times.

🇬🇧 This pic was taken in our camp site in Serengetti, at night we couldn’t go out alone, the hyenas were shouting outside! ⛺️ can you see the giraffes on the back?

Let’s have a quick tour of the central church of the city of Tequila, in Mexico... yes, this is where the beverage comes from!
When I shot that video, a wedding was taking place in the church. You can find some photos of this wedding in my feed 👋 #TheGreenomad
Maybe this weekend your family goes a few miles, maybe they go a few steps...either way, there are worlds of adventure waiting for you in even the smallest things!

🇮🇹Day 3/30 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This photo was taken atop the beating heart of Florence— Brunellesch's Dome (more on that later). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jack and I were nearing the end of our study abroad experience and had yet to partake in perhaps the most significant activity there is to do in Florence— climb the dome. We waited in line for hours in the rain, and at one point I ran off to grab some gelato, hehe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Once you reach the top, catch your breath, and turn your gaze southeast, you'll spot this particular view— the marvelous Basilica di Santa Croce. I would pass through the piazza (the public square) situated outside this basilica on my way to class in the morning. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Michelangelo, Rossini, Machiavelli, and Galileo Galilei are all buried inside the Santa Croce Basilica. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Note the traditional terracotta roofs of Florence, a deep orange. I love how it contrasts the rolling Tuscan hills. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Andrà Tutto Bene,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

if you’re having a hard time finding your place in the world, just know this - you were not made to only do or be one thing. you are more than just a traveler, or mom/ ceo/ teacher / student. it’s okay to shift, it’s okay to evolve
its okay to be a lot of things, to hold many titles. it’s okay to step into a roll you never thought possible or to let go of something that no longer serves you
if your worth is being tested, if you’re feeling less than because your travels have been put to a stand still - know you are more than the trips you take & the places you go
we are always going many places- maybe it’s time to explore the depths of yourself or maybe it’s time to honor truly how much gratitude you have for something that is suddenly taken away from you. but always remember that you are more than a single thing or title or instagram niche. hang in there everyone sending love
