🇭🇷 It has been a long time since I truly fell in love with a city the way I’ve fallen for Zagreb. Most people pass through Zagreb on their way to other destinations in Croatia and only stay for a day or two at most. Well, I’ve been here for almost a month, and even though I’m excited for the adventures I have coming up (stay tuned!), I’m sad to leave this place, where I could honestly picture myself living one day.
🇭🇷 I’ll write a blogpost soon about why I love this city, and why you should visit, but for now, I’ll leave you guys with pics from the Botanical Gardens. One of my favorite free activities here 😊
I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I moved back to London 🤯 I'm so ready for things to get started and school to begin. I made a first step today getting into the swing of things by taking a dope body positive dance class with @thecurvecatwalk, and I'm excited to do some theatre stuff with my coursemates at @universityofeastlondon when classes start at the end of the month. Life is happening 🙏🏾
Vieux Port📍Marseilles🇫🇷The Vieux Port represents the birthplace of Marseilles. This is where the city began as a Greek port around 600 BC. Surrounded by serene blue waters, the Old Port is located in the west of Marseilles near the Canebière boulevard. A stroll around this ancient harbor gives visitors a feel for the thriving Mediterranean atmosphere of Marseilles. The lively waterfront is a focal point for tourists, and many say that this area is the best place to find authentic bouillabaisse, the flavorful seafood stew that is a specialty of Marseille. On the east side of the harbor, the Quai des Belges hosts a fish market every morning.
“One day, if you haven’t already, you’re going to meet someone and immediately realize that you’ve found a soul friend. She’s the friend that you can message at any time of the day and you’ll surely get a reply. She’s the friend that will leave you a random message saying that you should make sure not to do anything too crazy and that she’s always there if you need anyone to talk .
She’s the friend that will tell you to text her when you get home so she knows that you arrived safely. She’s the friend that lets you gush about the guy you’re crushing on, but laughs at you because you two have never even spoken. She’s the friend that reminds you that you can do anything as long as you have the guts to go for it. She’s the friend that you can talk to about your dreams. She’s the friend that will laugh at you when you fall, but is also the first one to pick you up.
She’s the friend that will tell you that she’ll punch the air out of the boy who keeps on hurting you. She’s the friend that will tell you that it’s all going to be okay. She’s the friend that always says she loves you, and shows it with every action. She’s the friend that knows everything you’ve been through. She’s the friend that knows your deepest, darkest secrets but never judges you. She’s the friend that reminds you that you deserve so much better. She’s the friend that always says, “I got you,” and actually means it.
She’s the friend that tells you that you are strong and that she believes in you. She’s the friend that reminds you to eat when you’re too busy to remember on your own. She’s the friend that tells you that true friendship can’t be measured by how long you’ve known each other.
She’s the friend that made you believe you can do anything. If you’re lucky enough to have this person in your life already — thank them, for it makes growing up and getting hurt and falling in love and simply just being, so much easier, so much more manageable, when you have someone like that by your side.” — Bernice Garcia

Are you required to know Spanish before visiting Spain? No. Should you learn a few words and phrases before you go? Yes!
Why? Well for one, you're in another country where (insert your language here) isn't the primary spoken language. So whatever expectations you may have? Toss them. Learn hello and goodbye. Learn please and thank you. Learn how to order food, how to say your name. Learn how to ask if a person knows any English. The more you try, the farther you'll get. .
Also, most locations don't have English translations written below. Train stations and airports are notable exceptions. So are BIG tourist attractions. Other than that? All Spanish. So it helps to, at the very least, have Google Translate on hand.
But. I only know a little Spanish and wandered around four cities comfortably. Actually, you learn things as you go, which was remarkable.
Have you ever studied another language before travelling? Let me know in the comments!

#Sponsored . So here’s a funny story: I was on assignment in St. Kitts a few years ago when I woke up in the middle of the night feeling really hot. But I just assumed there’d been a power cut (a common Caribbean occurrence) and the generator hadn’t kicked in. Minutes later I felt cold, pulled up the covers, and went back to sleep.
This happened several times, and always at the Caribbean resorts I’d be staying in for work. I’d wake up hot; roll my eyes at the inefficiency of island power companies; and eventually fall asleep again when the a/c resumed. But then one day, it happened at home in Miami, where I KNEW the a/c worked just fine. And that’s when, after almost a year, I finally realized: I’d been having hot flashes!
That’s the thing about menopause: We don’t talk about it, so women don’t know what to expect and symptoms can catch you off-guard. For me, menopause brought hot flashes; irritability; some anxiety and unexplained sadness - as well as an amusing tale to tell at dinner parties.😉
What about you? What’s your menopause story? September is #MenopauseAwarenessMonth , so I’m encouraging you to visit the link in my bio to hear from other women and share your own experience using the hashtag #LiveHotStayCool . Let’s modernize the convo around menopause with @equelleofficial. Because we’re not just getting older; we’re getting better!

Would you jump into an active 50-foot tall mud volcano with a bunch of strangers? Well we did and it was a super fun, relaxing and healing experience! This healing volcano boasts skin-rejuvenating properties, and is often called the “Volcano of Youth.” We highly recommend visiting El Totumo while in Colombia. #travelingcocoagirlsincolombia

Are you familiar with your primary love language?
There are five basic love languages:
Words of affirmation
Acts of service
Each of the languages are important, and expresses love in its own way. Remember, we are not a one-size fits all species and everybody gives and receives love in their own way. Also, the way we love as adults is usually reflective of the love we received in childhood.
Learning your partners (and your own) primary love languages will help to create a stronger bond in your relationship.
*Disclaimer* this does NOT guarantee success in a relationship. But it does foster a stronger union and opens up a space of communication and understanding.
So take some time to get familiar with your love languages...it’s a very useful tool. #blkgrlpeace

Let’s talk about gaslighting in a relationship. The term “gaslighting” is defined as: to manipulate (someone) by psychological means into questioning their own sanity.
How many times have you heard, “you’re just insecure” “you’re crazy” “you have self esteem issues”...etc? This tactic is TIRED and a sign of mental manipulation. A means to control and avoid accountability at all costs.
In ANY healthy relationship, owning your shit is pivotal. I mean seriously, who are you helping with avoidance and deflection??? No one! Especially not yourself, your partner, friends, family, or colleagues. •
Even if it hurts your ego to the core, you will find yourself in a happier space when you own your flaws and just admit shit...you were wrong, you lied, you made a damn mistake, you screwed up. 🗣OWN IT 🤷🏽♀️
We cannot heal if we refuse to recognize the hurt. Periodt.

“Comfort is the enemy of progress”
This week I started my professional career as a corporate attorney at Skadden Arps in DC. I know there will be several times where I am pushed, where I am uncertain and where I am doubtful of my abilities. Sooo...I’m challenging myself to remember that discomfort brings forth change, and is the only way that we can grow. So here is to the start of a new journey! 📸: @buddie_o

Would you go to #Bali ?🏝

I’ve made it home safely from my month’s trip to the Motherland! 🌍
While it’s pretty hard to describe my experiences, four simple words will do...
I LOVE BEING BLACK!
This picture was taken earlier this year in Palenque, Colombia, the first “free town” for Africans in the Americas. It now perfectly serves as the summary of my last four weeks.
From the moment I landed on the continent in The Ivory Coast I knew I was “home” once again. The feeling can’t really be put into words. Your body and spirit just knows.
I then traveled by air and land to Ghana, Togo, Benin, Ethiopia and Kenya. Each place reconfirmed...
I LOVE BEING BLACK!
The pride, resilience and determination of my people is amazing. Man can try to strip away our roots and history, tear us down and try to make us feel inferior, but it’s just not going to happen! We are all Kings and Queens with royalty in our DNA. ✊🏾👑
Every time I visit, I come back with a ton of knowledge, more pride and a better understanding of who I am.
I don’t care what color you are, take that trip and see the Africa that text books and the media doesn’t show!
