On the way back our driver pushed is once again somewhere we hadn't intended to go. But this time we weren't bothered by it. This is a beautiful rice terrace in the Tegalalang area. A bit of a tourist trap, but impressive to see nonetheless.

This lake is surrounded by rice paddies and farms, filled with fish farms, and looks up to an active volcano. You can see the lava field all around, and if you are feeling up to it, you can take an early morning hiking tour to the top of the volcano for sunrise. We decided the 2:30am departure time we too early for us. This bike around the lake was perfectly sufficient. Which made me think of another travel tip we could offer. No matter where you are traveling, there are going to be plenty of things on the must do list, and levels of how you experience them. We choose to not always go all the way with some things. Sometimes viewing a monument or chapel or mountain from the outside or far away is good enough for us. We don't always need to wait in the lines and deal with some of the necessary misery involved to get up close and personal. Picking and choosing what actually means the most to you is so important to how satisfied you will be with your experience.

I've ridden bikes my whole life, but not extensively if that makes sense. Most of my experience was riding down the lane on the family compound growing up, and more recently when we've rented bikes for transportation in various cities. All in all I wouldn't say I'm overly coordinated on them. I also had on sandals (sustained a toe/foot injury almost immediately), had to wear a dress because the locals do not like to see bare thighs, and had to navigate rock covered, dilapidated roads, while scooters and cars raced around us. It was a little nerve wrecking, and a fairly intense unexpected workout since there ended up being more hills than we realized. That being said it was an experience and we got to see some beautiful scenery and break up the schedule of site seeing we had been on. Will is so good at finding side trips like these. They are always an adventure, but also always some of the most memorable experiences. We both always say it would be sad if you only stuck to the main well known sites and areas. Getting out into the real life areas is so worth it. Especially if you want to see the true reality of where you are traveling.

Our main intention for the day was to rent bikes and cycle around the Danu Batur (lake) and see the volcano. The Australian owner of the bike shop was great and gave us some insights, including the tid bit about the drivers. .
You can hire a driver for the day (10 hours) for about $35. It's much safer and quicker than renting a car or scooter. They know where they are going, how to drive in Bali, and exactly when to beep their horn to avoid a horrendous crash. The traffic and driving here is some of the craziest we've seen. Which says a lot because the driving in Turkey was mind blowing.

I was pleased this swing at least had some safety constraints. There's one main Bali swing, but you can easily find others with similar views and cheaper prices for a swing. Honestly could have done without doing this but as we later learned, the drivers you can hire (which we had for the day) receive commission on the various activities and restaurants they push people toward. We never intended to stop here and went along with it even though we had a feeling of what was going on, but lesson learned. We've been much clearer and quicker to say no since.

The coffee farm we stopped at also had a swing and bird's nests. These are a thing in Bali so we went for it. #lovebirds
Now that we’ve spent an entire month in Bali, you wouldn’t even be able to tell that we’re tourist anymore 🌾😜
. #Terimakasih Indonesia 🙏 You’ve become one of my favorite countries to explore! The welcoming people with positive energy did it for me 😊 Not to mention the visual beauty and sweetest little scooter roads in the world? 🛵💨

I wake up and feel complete thrill to have this guy on my arm. How did he get so lucky? Lol. I almost passed, he looked like he had a mustache?!
Dating is hard. And not looking any easier. I’ve met plenty of men looking for the next best thing. I honestly didn’t know this time would be any different when I swiped right. For crying out loud I lived in L.A. and he was in Denver. But it was.
Wouldn’t change things for the world, well maybe ... we would have talked more about relocating to Cali instead of Denver, but the bumps have subsided and things are smooth sailing. I’m complete. And when people ask about marriage. I’m just fine.
