Imagine a silent dawn, tweets of the birds and a solitary cry of a pond heron breaking the stillness where a dugout canoe glided through the water by few unhurried and determined fisherman. The scene is idyllic, the mood is dreamlike and it is the way of life in the backwaters of Kerala, far removed from the daily life yet closely linked to the rest of the world. In early times these very waterways were the starting point for the transport of exotic south Indian spices from the mountains of Western Ghats to distant lands of Arabia, Europe etc., In fact Kerala is inseparable from her lakes, lagoons and backwaters. They have dictated here history, shaped her present and promise a future offering incomparable beauty and unique experience. The most interesting area in backwaters is the Kuttanad region called rice bowl of Kerala and Kumarakom is one little village in this region on the banks of famous vemband lake.
„if 2020 is telling us anything, it’s telling us to enjoy the moments you have and don’t take any day, anything or anyone for granted.“
„all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.“
We can throw out that 2020 planner if we want - just not the dreams we wrote in it
Now halfway through the year we gotta pivot and re-imagine what we can do with the time we have. Our travel dreams may be paused, yet there’s so many ways we to show up for ourselves in the meantime. Reading, writing, resting and sitting with yourself can lead to so much clarity (and personally has for me).
Let’s reclaim our optimism. Let’s reclaim our glow. I know it’s easier said than done as I too struggle with it daily. While this isn’t the year we had planned, it’s the one we’ve got. The question is what are you gonna do about it now and how can we make it work in our favor from here on out?
We got this! I believe in us. And if you take this time to plan your post-corona bucket list you need to add Costa Rica! It’s a green, lush beauty that should not go unnoticed.

A piping bowl of phở is by far the best way to start the day. 😋 @myriameraki shared their gratitude for Ho Chi Minh City’s street stalls with this mouth-watering snap. In Hanoi, locals also breakfast on steaming plates of bánh cuốn (rice rolls) or savoury bundles of peanut-y sticky rice. What’s your favourite Vietnamese breakfast?⠀
