Oh man! My heart exploded while watching “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” - have you seen it yet? There’s this beautiful, heart opening moment you must see! I wanted to share this take away with you. Right here and now, as you see this, take a moment to close your eyes for at least one minute and reflect on all of the people that loved you into being. You might even be surprised by some of the figures that pop up for you as you reflect. Eyes closed. Hand over your heart. Connect. Let the love and awareness flow 💓✨💗

The moments they dont know I'm watching, they are best friends.
When mom's paying attention it's fight-on.
Today I attended the cutest baby shower for the sweetest cousin-in-law! I love attending baby showers and this time I brought my 8year old daughter with me. I loved sharing with her this time honored tradition of women gathering together to support a new mother-to-be. We had maidens, mothers, and elders sharing excitement, love, and support. I love seeing the precious items that are brought for the mama and new baby ranging from much needed diapers to adorable minuscule outfits, to hand crocheted blankets, to personal care products. Everyone brings an offering of the things they think the mama will need. I love this tribe and village of women I am blessed to have married into. I love the comfort, joy, and love that emanates from each woman and child at these showers. We leave any and all differences at the door and glory in the similarities of the company we share. This new little one will be so loved by so many people, and I can’t wait to meet him! 💕

The Masters Summer League in Geelong was designed to get guys over 35 outside, active and enjoying some competing sport in the right spirit. With everything we’re learning about mental health at the moment, this was a key driver for the organisers.
I have to say it’s been bloody brilliant and has certainly helped me a lot over the last 5 weeks just being in this environment. Whatever you’re going through, it really helps to get around a group of people you can let “hair” down with. #sport#football#soccer#geelong#themex#oceangrove#community#support#tribe

Walking into the weekend feeling a little more like myself. It’s been a challenging week; I’ve been feeling fatigued, frustrated and my ability to focus has been shocking!
My conditioned reaction to when I’m not on my A game is to panic 🤯, put the pedal to the metal and focus on the lack of productivity..... NEWSFLASH this approach doesn’t serve anyone!
It doesn’t serve me, because my body is obviously tired and needs all the TLC it can get right now. I become agitated & fatigued using this conditioned approach.
In a society where self worth is often based on output and productivity, have you developed a back off method when your mind and body is clearly asking for it? Have you made this non negotiable?
Here are a couple of practices that may assist with giving you some time to recalibrate and back off. Rest assured tomorrow is a new day and with it comes new emotions, new perspectives and outlooks. ✅ Sleep on it! Seriously what’s the worst that can happen? The ego often likes to trick us into thinking that the world revolves around us and that the world will fall apart if we fail to complete a particular task. ✅ Go to bed earlier. This is so often overlooked! The quality and amount of sleep we get is paramount for overall health, both physical and mental. ✅ Ditch the sugar highs and lows. Opt for foods that will stabilise your blood sugar levels. Good fats, proteins and non starchy vegetables. Craving something sweet? Raw cacao is a great pick me up for the afternoon slump. Note it does contain caffeine; carob is a caffeine free alternative. ✅ Get up from your work space and take a walk around the block, or find a quite space to centre and ground. Try to avoid using your phone and connecting to your surroundings. What can you see, hear, smell and feel? That email or text will still be there when you return (I promise!). I would love to hear what your back off methods look like. Life is a continuous dance 💃 working out what suits you best and how you best operate. Be gentle with yourself, because if you’re not, how do you expect other to be?
Great ideas about how to look after your self from @mellowdoodles.
SELF~CARE is such a “buzz” word(pun intended) in our society and that can make it easy to minimize. Rather, self-care is a huge MUST but it’s a lot more than a bubble bath, a massage or treating yourself to an elaborate spa day. It’s the daily rituals that are restorative to your health… Mind, body, and soul.
What are some ways that you practice self-care?💕👇🏼

It's almost time, we are getting ready for the Lamu Yoga Festival Tour alongside @jah9online in Kenya on the following dates.
Suri men will fight to the death to protect their herd, and some risk their lives to steal from other tribes. As well as cattle, the Suri trade. In the 1980s they smuggled automatic weapons from Sudan. The Suri have some extremely painful rituals, including lip plates, scarification and dangerous stickfighting.
I’ll be leading Ethiopia photo tour in coming September 2020. You can contact me for more details #suri#tribe#ethiopia#phototours#travel#places#people#portrait_page

#tbt My hubby and I caught a bit of the #pipeline masters in 2009! It was an epic trip for us...I was in my late 30’s, had school aged children back at home with grandma (thank you!) and I felt like I was livin’ the dream!🌊🏄🏻♀️
Here’s another part of that time I’m remembering...I had just taken one a YEAR off of drinking. Interesting, even back then, I felt the gentle nudge to consider my choices and look at my relationship with alcohol.🤔 I just had a feeling in my gut it was becoming too valuable and important in my life and I didn’t like that. As a mom, I felt conflicted that I was pouring a glass of wine most nights when I started cooking...how that drink was turning into a treat, a reward, and heading to become a habit. So I quit. I talked my husband into it too! We went on a “health kick”. It made it easier b/c we were together on this. Here’s the deal, we didn’t focus on learning about our individual relationships with alcohol, we just simply focused on “not drinking.”🙅🏻♀️
Yep, after 365ish days of willpower, deprivation mindset and a lot of proving to myself that I indeed was “in control”...I decided to slowly add it back in. You know, “moderation” by creating certain rules... like only drink on the weekends, only after 5 PM, no more than 2 drinks. It was just weeks before I fell back into the #vinoflytrap . Stress of selling our house, a move, transitioning kids into a new school, and turning 4-0! I found it wayyy to easy to bring it back in as a habit, it was our couple’s activity and I loved/hated the way it made me feel. Long story short....I struggled for the next five years in silence, isolation and shame because I was in a “grey area” and I had NO idea how many other women were struggling in the evenings like I was. The mental tug-of-war, the good intentions, the defeat, the trying harder, the not wanting to feel left out or labeled. The multiple “taking breaks” like a yo-yo diet. Up and down. On and off. I experienced it all. .
I’m back to being a “non-drinker” but my focus has totally shifted. I’m learning, gaining tools and joining in a real conversation. The biggest game changer for me has been #connection .
To be con...
