When diving in a #coralreef , our eyes are naturally drawn to the mosaic of life and colors present around the #hardcoral structures. And it should! After all, that is where most of the species we hope to encounter in a dive will be located. But sometimes, sandy areas on the periphery of a shallow reefs can host some of its strangest inhabitants. Among them is the plate fish (Bothus lunatus), also known as the peacock flounder. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This #flatfish can generally be found at depths of 1 to 20m (3.3 to 65.6ft), partially buried in #sediment with their eyes scouting the area above them. Those eyes can move independently from each other, making it a very good at ambushing prey without barely moving a muscle. Additionally, the plate fish can change its skin color, turning it almost invisible on the #seafloor .
Next time you dive in the #caribbeansea , take a moment to look for small eyes lurking in the #sand , you may be able to spot this strange creature waiting for its next meal.
Fish, corals, great visibility, what else ??

Time to make a change !! 😉
(English below) Lophogorgia platyclados, como todas las gorgonias, es un organismo colonial, es decir, está compuesto por miles de pólipos que secretan una sustancia proteica que ayuda a sostener y dar forma al esqueleto.
Lophogorgia platyclados is a Gorgonian, a colonial organism formed by thousands of polyps that secrete a complex protein substance that makes up the horny skeleton, called gorgonin.
Dive eight from La Paz, Mx. I would love to go back and dive this site again. A very interesting Maze of rock and coral, it would be a blast to try mapping. Some many fun things hiding in the cracks too.

October to me is the best month to swim with the whales. The water is typically is calmer, there are less boats, and the whales love to perform!!!! 11 whale heat run today! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
😔 // Definitely one of my favorite species!! Thanks Carcharhinus longimanus for letting us enjoy your beauty! Although we don’t deserve it... unfortunately, this beauty is classified in the IUCN red list as VULNERABLE 😕.Oceanic whitetip sharks (Carcharhinus longimanus) have been caught in large numbers virtually everywhere they occur, particularly in pelagic longline and drift net fisheries. This species was initially described as the most common pelagic shark beyond the continental shelf in the Gulf of Mexico, and throughout the warm-temperate and tropical waters of the Atlantic and Pacific!!! #savesharks#shark#love#care#protect#longimanus#redlist#redsea#diving#underwater#underwaterphotography#gadormunta#sharkconservation#sharkawareness#sharksicence#aqualungdivers#aqualung_spt#firstodive#padiambassadiver@blueforcefleet
