When I first started researching the city, I learnt about the various ways in which we can inscribe meaning onto our spaces. Doing so gives us a little of the power that has been taken away from us by modern-day neoliberalism. From walking, to bringing back the role of the flaneur/flaneuse (and challenging it), to protesting, to squatting, to occupying space, to loitering, and so on. Writing (and overwriting) on the walls, streets, billboards, is transgressive, assertive, and makes meaning. And with a powerful message such as this one, the gaze rests, and even smiles.
To rebel cities and space invaders!
