We feel the same way Alissa... on this cold and gloomy Wednesday!! Alissa is one of our diabetic patients and she comes in for regular blood glucose curves to make sure the amount of insulin being given is appropriate. She is the sweetest patient! 😻
Our sweet little Lady was groomed today thanks to Wooftopia Dog Training & Recreation Centre! Lady was returned after being adopted 4 years ago. She was sadly returned with a severe UTI and dental issues.
Buster wants us to make his Christmas wish come true! He has a family waiting for him, but he needs heartworm treatment before he can be cleared for adoption. Can we help get Buster home for Christmas? 🎄

✔️𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁. When I walk through the clinic’s door I have no idea what to expect. Is it a puppy with a viral disease, a female dog with pyometra that requires surgery or a cat with a broken femure that needs x-rays? You never know what the day brings. And you can never get bored! .
✔️𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝘇𝘇𝗹𝗲𝘀. Every single case is different. So we have to take each symptom as a piece of the puzzle and put them all together until we find the diagnosis. We treat the patient, not the disease! .
✔️𝗔 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲. Well this one is pretty obvious, but we really have a meaningful job. Saving lives is what drives us, what motivates us to spend long hours at the clinic. .
✔️𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. Not just to pets’ but also owners’ lives. You think your dog is your child and you talk to it accordingly, too. So when we help a dog heal, we help its family, as well. We are there for you, too! We offer all our love and support not just to our patients, but also to their owners, especially during hard times, like putting an old dog to sleep. .
✔️𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Constant learning provides the means to become a better doctor and also a better person. You must always be in competition, not with others, but yourself! .
✔️ and, of course, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀! Caring for animals makes us better veterinarians and what we receive in return from them is unconditional love. ❤️

#vetcare#dnepr

Whether it's a race horse or a house cat, know your animals are in good hands🐎🐈 Let them splash in the rain, chase that ball, or climb that tree knowing that while they’re on the move, their bandages won’t be🐾
Sturdy, non-toxic, non-hair pulling cohesive bandages--better for your animals, better for your practice.

If anyone sees this and can afford or wish to reshare..... there is a link in our bio for Floss.
She had an emergency xray and surgery this morning.
She still isn't out of the woods yet as the continuing swelling may or may not be related to the chemo drug having leaked out of the hole in her vein.
We have to pay for her medication and she won't be home to us this week.
gf.me/u/vun69i is the link in bio.
Thank you. Although we had many plans for building for other little ones and more, we won't be sharing anymore photos for a while.
She knew on the day she was pain and tried saying it....that was 2 weeks ago. Every day since then, we have been fighting for her.

I was SO ready to pass internal medicine friends!
I knew every bovine respiratory bacteria and virus, I knew all the dosages and mechanisms of every drug from ACE Inhibitors to Oclacitinib. I went in there yesterday and for one of the only times I can remember I was sort of calm because it was supposed to be my day. The day I pass one of two final exams so I can finally graduate.
It's an oral exam with 3 professors - farm animals, small animals and diagnostic techniques.
Got passed farm animals, smallies and diagnostics remained. I had seen the diagnostics professor throw out 5 students before me. Strange because he usually doesn't fail and is really helpful, but he was up next for me. Sat down - "tell me about pleural effusions" inside I'm screaming OMG I LOVE EFFUSIONS I'M PASSING TODAY
Was going well until I got to X-ray diagnosis. I made a mistake and started talking about signs correlated with pulmonary oedema not effusion. He wasn't happy. I took a minute, course corrected and felt we're on our way again cause he was positive again. Got to the costal-diaphragm margin sign "where is it seen on x-ray and what is the difference between cats and dogs on lateral view?"
Friends, I read 431 pages of class notes 4 times, another bazillion slides 4 times and made my own notes. This was never any info I had ever seen. Position yes, the difference between cats and dogs? Nothing! (Honestly if you know tell me cause I can't find anything on this). He wouldn't let me go on after that and it was over
I was a little shocked tbh, but oral exams are so uneven that I couldn't even be surprised or too upset. There's always something you don't know, no one is perfect. I have no doubt I'll get it next time.
For now I'm just thinking about going back home to a new apartment, seeing my family and having a nice party on my birthday next week 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈
Thank you to everyone who wrote in with supportive messages - you're all the best! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

In Queensland, there are approx. 120 known species of snakes, of which 65% are venomous (80)! ⠀ ⠀
Snake envenomation is a toxicity that requires immediate action regardless of whether you have identified the snake or not. Snake detection can be difficult. Given the major consequences that can arise for your pet if they have been bitten, we advise you have your pet assessed and a coagulation test will be performed to determine the extent of the envenomation. ⠀ ⠀
Owners are advised NOT to capture the snake, we don't want anyone else to get hurt! ⠀ ⠀

Pixie using her boppy to stand! Today was an amazing day for us all here as we learned that Pixie is dealing with an enlarged (fatty) liver and severe arthritis. Pixie’s new diet and supplements will help with her liver and we will keep her on lifelong pain management medications for her arthritis! No hip dislocation or liver failure as originally thought. We couldn’t be more over the moon! We still have a long road ahead of us but six days into the fam and we see Pixie already making tremendous strides. We can’t wait to get to know her even better and eventually introduce her to another cutie boppy-loving hen that lives here (hint: it’s Raisin). #pixie#gopixiego#veganswithchickens#cornishcross#vetcare#babydust#farmbirdsanctuary#vegan

Has your pet had a dental check lately?! This kitty was diagnosed with a FORL which means a feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion. This is where the body starts breaking down the structure of the tooth and decaying. This is painful and can mean they have difficulty eating, bleeding from the mouth and acting strange 🦷 We offer free dental checks with a nurse 👩⚕️ and can check during consults and vaccinations ✅ #dental#FORL

Fresh+Oasis is dedicated to saving lives. We partner with rescues and vet clinics to provide nutrition in times of crisis.
This young kitten was brought into the Story County Veterinary Clinic in Ames, IA. She was frozen with a faint pulse. After she was properly cared for by the amazing LeAnn, she began to eat and was immediately given Crisis Care Paste to improve her digestive function and give her a fighting chance.
Crisis Care Paste
An emergency response tool that helps revitalize and bring harmony back to your pet’s digestive system – works faster and more effectively than any probiotic paste in the market. Crisis Care Paste comes in a 60 ml syringe.

No, seriously. How are you?
Have you asked yourself this question lately?
We all have busy and chaotic lives, going through the day like running the marathon or something.
Let’s stop for a moment. Breathe! I know it sounds stupid but just close your eyes and breathe. We often forget to take care of ourselves and we become stressed out, fatigued, BURNT OUT. Why? Because we forget how to live! How to enjoy the little moments.
Wake up 10 minutes earlier and enjoy your coffee. Put the phone away. This is your solo moment - without the noise of the world.
Take your breaks at work and don’t forget to stay hydrated.
Take a walk on your way home.
Go to the movies.
Read that book you keep on your nightstand.
Get a massage.
Get a facial treatment.
Call a friend you haven’t seen in a while.
Go to the gym.
Or to yoga.
Watch Netflix under the blankets with your fur baby.
Drink hot chocolate.
Plan your next vacay.
Take a day off if you need to!
Whatever is good for your soul, DO THAT!❤️

VMCAS post #7 : Let’s talk....MONEY.
This aspect is not shared a lot but this is a big factor in how many schools one can apply to because the cost now goes up $110 with each school you apply for on VMCAS.
My PERSONAL approach:
Side note: I was VERY conscious of how much money I was going to spend and could not afford to spend thousands on applications. Therefore:
💵 I applied to my in-state and all schools surrounding it so it ended up to be a total of 5 schools. 5 schools = $600 (**according to the AAVMC, the cost of 5 schools has now increased to $655**) and this does NOT include secondary applications.
💵 I attended 3 interviews that were fortunately within driving distance so I was able to avoid both plane and hotel costs. I declined 1 out-of-state interview because I had already received an acceptance.
I was able to save money through this process, however, it can be MUCH MORE expensive for others (over $3000). Here are some tips for how I would go about that:
💰 Start saving EARLY. If you know you’re gonna be applying to a bunch of schools, start saving for that money in the beginning of the year and then add in traveling expenses the closer it gets to interview time.
💰 Contact family members to see if they can help with this process. I know plenty of people who received help from their parents, grandparents, etc. and there’s nothing wrong with that! They want to see you succeed.
💰 Paying with a credit card is always an option with the added and inevitable burden of debt you’ll need to eventually pay back.
💰 Take the time this summer to look-out and apply for scholarships that will also help you keep costs down during this process!
👇🏾How did you pay for your vet school apps? Any tips you’d want to share?

Senior dog medical sponsorship applications are OPEN! Please read on for details! 🏥🏥🏥
This photo is of our late Susie, the namesake of Susie's Senior Dogs, from June 2015 when she had gone into heart failure. She spent two nights in the ICU to be closely monitored until she was stable again and allowed to come back home. Susie lived for another 10 months with us until she passed away in April 2016. It was devastating losing our old girl Susie; she was estimated to be somewhere around 16 years old.
Prior to adopting Susie, she had never had vet care in her life. She had a mouth full of rotten teeth, a high grade heart murmur, and mammary masses galore, to name a few. Sadly, these are actually "typical" ailments for many senior dogs in rescue. Not necessarily because they are old, but because they may have lacked vet care over the years. While some diseases and illnesses are not preventable, annual vet care can certainly help slow down the aging process and manage any issues that arise as they get older. There is a misconception that younger dogs don't need vet care and that's simply not true. Many seniors are in rough shape because they never had vet care as a young pup!
When we adopted Susie she was a medical mess. And we want to help other dogs who are in Susie's situation. Susie 100% inspired the founding of Susie's Senior Dogs and a big part of our mission today is to give senior dogs vet care like Susie had; to help make them more comfortable, pain free and, ultimately, more adoptable.
501c3 rescue groups and shelters are all welcome to apply for sponsorship! Sponsorships are open to senior dogs age 7 years old and up. Sponsorship applications only remain open for a limited window at a time in order to process all requests in a timely manner, so we encourage you to apply quickly, or to share the link with your favorite rescue in need of financial help.
Thank you to everyone who donates to SSD. Because of YOU we have been able to give out many sponsorships to senior dogs who desperately needed vet care. 💸
We look forward to continuing the privileged mission of Susie's Senior Dogs!
