I have some new reading material to catch up on. And why not couple it with a smooth Padron Damaso and a 2012 Baron’s Petit Barone? Ok fine. I’ll do it! This wine is a Bordeaux style blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Continuing the English wine this week, mostly because I received a postcard from my sister @hfenn saying I could drink the wine she’d left 💃🏼🍷🥂 (this is also her top) while she’s in New Zealand. So what am I grasping this evening? It’s a Solaris wine from @chetvineyard - it’s quite an interesting colour because its clear in the glass but looks vaguely pinky yellow in the bottle. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. On the nose it’s very pronounced, yeasty and aromatic. It gives hints of gooseberry and that NZ whiff of animal scent - no bad thing. Then it’s got a bit of spritz, almost lively in the mouth. It aims to please and it’s excited, like a happy little dog, I tried it before heading out to supper and although I’ve been in the car for a short while now, I still have the most wonderful taste in my mouth. It’s like having a fresh grapefruit with a generous topping of honey, some almonds sprinkled on top for good measure. I’d certainly have it again and it has added to my increasing curiosity in England wine. The vineyard is on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, the future is exciting 🇬🇧 #madeinengland
