Helicopter goes for a swim! 🤣
The Mil Mi-14 is a Soviet shore-based nuclear-capable amphibious anti-submarine. This Mi-14PS helicopter took part in the exercises of sea rescuers in Russia and Japan to assist ships in distress and to eliminate oil spills. .
While practicing the exercise for lifting people out of the water, there was a sudden drop in the power on both engines causing the aircraft to plummet into the water from 5m. As the accident investigation commission found out, during the rough landing a crack formed in the hull, and sea water began filling the aircraft. .
However, the Mi-14PS being an amphibious helicopter retained its buoyancy, unaware about the damage done, the crew managed to restart the engines, and decided to take off. At the time approximately 1.5 tons of sea water has enter the fusaluge and some electrical components had been short circuited. This caused the Mi-14PS, to “dig” its nose into the water until the impact of the tips of the main rotor blades with the water surface. .
As a result, the helicopter overturned in one instant and partially collapsed: the tail beam was destroyed by a sharp blow to the transmission. Luckily the aircraft did not sink, which allowed the vast majority of those on board to escape. Of 16 occupants on board the pilot suffered traumatic spinal injuries and passed shortly after. .
The critical care our invaluable @nhswebsite is providing is outstanding, and we could not be more grateful to the tireless efforts of their frontline staff against the unprecedented impact of Covid-19.
Last week, I spoke with Dr. Neil Churchill OBE & Baroness Dido Harding as our highly skilled people at @virginatlantic have been recognised for their value and experience to help support the NHS during this crisis. From the incredible Nightingale Hospitals to roles in the @ldn_ambulance; our people are also able to support as Volunteer Responders and our engineering community can help with building essential NHS equipment.
Today, we reached out to our people with all available opportunities and the response has been fantastic. Throughout the Covid-19 situation I’ve been blown away by the Virgin spirit our people have demonstrated and since the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was announced, so many of them have reached out wanting to help others at a time when it matters most.
Our cargo business is also playing a vital role in transporting essential medical supplies to the UK and ensuring global supply chains are kept in operation.
The biggest and most heartfelt thank you to all those supporting in the NHS, in whatever capacity, you are all beyond brilliant.
We’re so grateful to the NHS for everything they are doing in extremely challenging circumstances and are committed to doing all we can to support the national effort against the rapid acceleration of Covid-19.
I’m very proud of our highly skilled people at Virgin Atlantic and since the Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme was announced, we’ve been inundated with messages from our teams looking to help other organisations at this time of crisis.
The NHS approached us with a number of unique opportunities as they recognise the value and experience our medically trained cabin crew, engineers and wider employee community can bring to various NHS initiatives. From providing support to the Nightingale Hospital, London Ambulance Service and NHS Volunteer Responder groups, to the role our engineers can play in the assembly of essential NHS equipment.
In addition, our cargo business is very busy with extra flights, keeping global supply chains running and transporting essential medical supplies into the UK at this time.
Humbled by the heroric efforts of the NHS and very proud of our teams volunteering to support. #virginatlantic#virginholidays#nhs#covid

Super proud of all my fellow Virgins repatriating customers and taking essential medical & pharmaceutical supplies on cargo flights around the world. And now many volunteering to help the NHS in their fight against Covid-19.
Highly trained and skilled crew who are so much more than a ‘dolly’. ❤️👠💋 @virginatlantic

AIRLINES: #European budget airline easyJet says it is grounding all of its 344 #aircraft amid a collapse in #demand . It said there was “no certainty of the date for restarting #commercialflights .” The carrier based in #Luton , England, had already canceled most of its flights and said it has reached an agreement with unions on furlough arrangements for its cabin crew.
Britain’s government has so far demurred from creating a rescue package for #aviation but has said it is ready for negotiations with individual firms once they had “exhausted other options.” Scottish regional airline Loganair said it expects to ask for a government bailout.
For reasons unknown to anyone but my bizarre body clock, I've not slept for 24 hours and I'm wide awake. Escaping from the world for 11 hours was well worth coming to work today. And being able to see Canada* from the sky is always awesome.
*I'm historically bad at geography and originally thought this was a more melted version of Greenland but it turned out to be Canada #canada#virginatlantic#notgreenland#crewlife#36000ft

Some people ask me how I got into aviation...? ✈️
Well, when I was very young I was introduced to something called Flight Simulator by a school friend and ever since then I was fascinated and hooked on the idea that you could actually fly planes around the world on a computer simulation game! 🖥🕹✈️
So from then I really wanted to see what the real thing was like and so I was very fortunate to get a trial flying lesson for my birthday when I think I was around 10-12, and since then the rest has been history!
Do I still use flight sim today? Yes, albeit not as much as I used to but I would say the graphics have got much better over the years.. here’s some of my photos from my sim! 👍🏼✈️
And just like that, I have my wings✈️ I used to watch the crew in the airport and dream of it being me one day. I tried so hard so many times and could never get there. Last year something changed and it was finally my turn. I’m so lucky and everyday I am thankful. Watch this space, nothing but smiles in the aisles♥️ #virginatlanticcabincrew#virginatlantic#virginatlanticcrew

I actually cannot believe I am writing this, slightly earlier and a complete last minute surprise, but...I GOT MY WINGS. The hardest most emotional, stressful, craziest, but BEST 4 weeks of my life! A very uncertain few weeks and a little different than planned but I could not be happier to work for such an amazing company and will be forever grateful, not sure when we will fly but GROUP 856 amongst all the drama...WE DID IT!! And I couldn’t be more proud!! Now to live little Han’s dream 37,000ft in the sky, whenever that might be 🛩👠❤️ #virginatlantic#cabincrew#wings#ibelieveicanfly
And just like that, the skies and wings are mine ❤️✈️
I genuinely don’t have the words to describe the feeling I have tonight..... I’ve stood by this plane many a time (as we all know), but if you look closely, you’ll see my wings are firmly back in place on my chest, and they will stay there for the rest of my life ❤️✈️
The last 6 weeks have been the hardest, toughest, most challenging, but amazing weeks of my life. I’ve learnt for the second time, to be cabin crew, a nurse, a firefighter, a counsellor, a decision maker, a leader and a team worker and all alongside the best group of trainers, of who I could not have done this without, and an amazing group of people, who have EARNT their wings. 35 exams all passed, midnight study sessions, and 5am wake up calls, MANY a meltdown, many laughs, all alongside battling the current climate in aviation, and finally with the whole wide world at my fingertips, I have my wings ❤️✈️ Virgin Atlantic, thank you for everything.... I can’t explain how much I love this place, and the people within it ❤️✈️ next stop... the world!!!! #virginatlanticcrew#virginatlantic#virginatlanticcabincrew#wings
