Walking around in traditional Korean attire made me feel like a princess. Not only were the colors of the Hanbok vibrant, but when wearing it entrance to the various palaces were free. It was a win win for me.
“ how do i shake this envy
when i see you doing well
sister how do i love myself enough to know your accomplishments are not my failures
we are not each other’s competition -@rupikaur”
I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but social media can really be soul sucking if you allow it to. When you’re constantly seeing peoples’ highlight reels it’s easy to fall into the comparison loop and start to feel inadequate. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Whenever I feel those negative thoughts lurking I remind myself that there is enough abundance in the world for everyone. So essentially there is no competition. What’s meant for me I will have. 💫
How do you escape the comparison trap?

🇮🇩“Let’s talk about the infamous Bali flower bath. This is something I can say was definitely worth the money paid. For about roughly $32 you can have this experience at @kaverispa who has top notch service and friendly staff members. My time slot was for about 45-50mins which was enough time for @alandoddphoto to take some good 📸 of me. Also you can pick out your own flower 🌸 design and put whatever words you want on it to. They got skills! If you visit Bali and are in Ubud... you should check them out #notsponsored ....Something I wonder about is...how many flowers were harmed in the making of this bath 🛀 🌸🧐...” -👸🏽- @thetraveltaurus
Hey insta-fam! There are a lot of new faces around here so I think that it's a perfect time for an introduction.
My name is Akia and I'm the Founder and Designer behind Akia Nicole. If you've followed me for any amount of time, you’ll notice my love for creating pieces that vibrant, feminine, and give you all the feels for your next vacation.
As someone that enjoys traveling myself, I found it hard to shop for pieces that would allow me to slay on my vacation. So I decided to do what any creative would- create what I wish existed and share it with the world! My hope is that I will inspire other women to travel a little more and look and feel beautiful while doing it. Because let's admit, if you didn't slay on your trip, did you really vacation?😉
So now that you know a little about me, I want to know more about you. Drop a 🌴 and tell me where is the most memorable place you have traveled to in the comments.

#Onewayticket to #Belize Day 8
Don’t talk to strangers?
When I hopped on a midnight bus last night trying to leave Mexico I never imagined I'd be stuck for 7 hours at a border town before the next bus out of the country.....I also never imagined that my 5am question..."Are you from Belize?" Would shrink that 7 hour wait to 5 minutes and I'd be hopping in a car spending the next 7 hours road tripping into and through Belize with 4 complete strangers!
When Kendra left London after a 2 month vacation there she never imagined her luggage would be lost in Germany nor that she'd be stuck for 7 hours in a Mexican border town..longing to get back home to Belize. So when she called her insomniac cousin in Belize and asked him to drive to Mexico to pick her and her friend up...she NEVER imagined that when he got lost on the way to the station she'd meet a stranger who she'd end up bringing home to her mother..
There are good people in the world…and there are bad people in the world…If we spend our lives worrying about all the things that could go wrong, we might never leave the house. Experiences like today have expanded my view of true hospitality and I’m reminded that taking a big risk can have even bigger rewards. All relationships are risky but if this trip has taught me anything it’s that there are epic, joy-filled, meaning-infused experiences and relationships found on the outskirts of my comfort zone #ShowUp
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” - Helen Keller
I took a risk traveling to Croatia solo, but sometimes you just gotta go for it! Don’t wait for someone else’s approval. Do what you think will make you happy!
It turned out to be one of the best trip I’ve ever taken ☺️
Fighting for my fairytale because it does exist.
Drop an emoji in the comments if you’re fighting for yours too! It’s the last quarter of the decade y’all. If you ain’t working on YOU and YOUR goals, what are you working on?
Let go of those that hurt you, hold close the ones that love you and don’t give up on those dreams. They are attainable. You just have to be willing to put in the work. That may mean cutting back on things you like to do. That might mean saying NO when you’re used to saying yes. If you don’t work for it, you’ll never appreciate it.
Trust me... the things I’ve worked so hard for are the things I appreciate more. The things I was handed don’t hold the same value. I’m fighting y’all... fighting because I deserve it.
My new abaya. 🇪🇬 🤗😍
Our experience in Egypt has been so interesting, eye-opening, and delightful all at the same time.
𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐫:
𝟏. 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞! The locals I’ve interacted with have been very kind, humorous, charismatic, ambitious (they some hustlas out here and I love it!), and conservative. 👍🏾
𝟐. 𝐍𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐚𝐲? “Driving in Egypt is an art, and the road is your canvas. There is no such thing as traffic lights or driving signals; you have the ultimate freedom to drive and turn wherever and whenever you want; no rules apply.” Not going to lie, our drives gave me anxiety but we made it to our destinations safely... even after a minor fender bender and hitting a small dog (he survived luckily). 🚦
𝟑. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐬 𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤. I guess I’ve always had a false expectation of Egypt (Cairo) being a marvelous paradise and while the city of Cairo is beautiful in its own right, I’ve noticed a lot of poverty which is always sad no matter where you go. 😕
𝟒. 𝐎𝐡, 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚. I asked the driver about homelessness and while he said there are some homeless people, it isn’t like the homeless population in let’s say, San Francisco. That’s wild... 🇺🇸
𝟓. 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐒 𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝟏𝟔.𝟐𝟓 𝐄𝐠𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬. It was wild seeing our breakfast bill, 753.46, which is only $46.38 USD. Not bad. 💵
𝟔. 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭. Imagine living next to the Nile River or having the pyramids as your daily backdrop. Exciting right? Maybe not... We spoke with a few locals and it reminded me that the grass is always greener on the other side. Our new friend stated that he used to be amazed with the pyramids and rich history but it gets old after a while. 🌊
𝟕. 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐮𝐩. Egypt is a conservative country and you’ll notice many women are garbed in abayas or hijabs. Be sure to pack various clothing styles if you visit. Being scantily clad will give you a lot of (possibly) unwanted attention. 🙈

• Landmarking Blackness • We’re very excited to share our Founder’s episode on The Wingin’ It Podcast with you. One of my favorite quotes on this podcast is “There is nothing that defines Blackness.” (Link in comments)
They refer to the podcast as — The Podcast for people who don’t have their sh!t together and is hosted by Rashad Howard and Athena Cross.
On the Podcast I talk about my life from the sweet beginnings. From being forced to go to college, dropping out of school, putting myself through school, quitting my bar tending gig to work for $5 at the computer lab. My big break in the lab and corporate. My big break interview with the VP of Sales - describing myself as eye candy with no sales experience. Getting the job to being in the top percent in an almost all male, all white corporate.
From not fitting in with family when I went home because I grew up in the suburbs. Being afraid of gunshots on visits back home. Being teased on never being back enough. But — there is no defining blackness.. ✊🏾 From wanting to be a teacher since childhood, my highs and lows of corporate sales to finally quitting, losing a child, and REfiguring outshot I wanted in life.
I couldn’t go back to college after sophomore year because we ran outta money after Dad was laid off. I spoke about being angry for years for playing by the rules set by my parents and life in general and learning long term that I needed to create my own life track.
Building Up in the Air Life I stopped living for other people and I fully embraces who I am. It’s been an amazing journey.
Give it a listen and grab a cocktail or coffee.
What trials did you face growing up that made you into who you are today? Let me know what you below. 👇🏾
