Such a peaceful and serene sight on a crisp, yet cold, December morning. Snow has fallen for the first time this season (at least in our area) and is getting me in the Christmas mood.
The North York Moors - famous for American Werewolf in London in the 80’s, The Avengers in the 90’s (the one with Sean Connery in, not Iron Man) and, now, in 2019, my adventure to Scarborough to the Victorian Christmas Markets. If you’re out today; take care on the roads.
Discovery of Whitby, completely unique and different corner of England embedded between two cliffs and washed by the Northern Sea. A few reasons to visit this place overnight or come over from a day trip from York: the sea, fish, and seafood, amazing views over the bay; mistique history of the Abbey and St' Mary's church dating back to the Norsemen times and before with gravestones of the 7th century (they say that St Hilda, a founder of the abbey was first a Celtic sorcerer, and successfully turned the snakes into stones); stage back for the Dracula story by Bram Stoker; the burial place of the first saxon medieval poet Caedmon; jet stones and silver jewellery shops selling jet relics. Whitby was also famous for whaling in the past, and the whalers originally coming from Whitby became main characters of the Moby Dick story. The town is also home of a famous sailer, geographer and captain James Cook #whitbyabbey#lovegreatbritian#thegrandyork#whitby#visityorkshirecoast#jetstones#caedmon#sainthilda#bramstoker#jamescook

Day 1: Anxiety .
As much as the holidays are supposed to be the happiest time of year, often people also feel anxious as they approach. This might be due to trying to get all of your Christmas shopping done, trying to meet end-of-year deadlines at work, or just anticipating the interactions (for millennials, read: interrogations) with family members at get-togethers. .
Here are some techniques or supplements that you can use to help ease anxiety:
🎄Box breathing - super easy way to slow your heart rate and breathing in the moment while experiencing acute anxiety. The analogy of the box comes from the repetitive nature. .
✨ Inhale for 4 seconds ⬆️ hold for 4 seconds 🧘♀️ exhale for 4 seconds ⬇️ hold for 4 seconds 🧘♀️ and repeat .
🎄L- theanine - a precursor to the neurotransmitter GABA that is critical for relaxation. This compound causes relaxation without causing sedation, which is important for people who experience anxiety in the daytime. .
🎄Lavender - lavender is a known anxiolytic herb, which means that it reduces anxiety. You can diffuse the essential oil, take it in a capsule or drink it as a tea. **be careful when applying essential oils to your skin because it can cause irritation .
🎄Talk! - counselling is key to improving mood disorders, including anxiety. Talk to a counsellor or even a supportive friend who can help calm your anxious thoughts. .
Remember to always consult your naturopath before starting supplements to ensure they are right for you! .

What's the weather like where you are this Monday morning? It's so mild here in Britain... feels strange not slipping and sliding on icy pavements. And as for a White Christmas - Bah humbug! Not a sausage is forecast. So let's click our clogs, and hope for views like this beautiful shot from the snowy 199 Steps at Whitby, Yorkshire by @dennisbromage
Known as the 199 Steps, this is a special place for many reasons, chiefly as the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. The 199 steps rise to the East Cliff, up which that naughty Dracula, in the guise of a black hound, ran after arriving in Whitby. Which is a bit daft if you ask me as you can scoff some of the finest fish and chips in Britain down there 🎣🍟 Oh well, his loss.
If you stand on the pavement outside the Royal Hotel on Whitby’s West Cliff and look out across the harbour town as the sun goes down, you can pretty much see, in their entirety, the early chapters of his famous story. Across the bay, in the shadow of the half-ruined abbey, sits St Mary’s Churchyard, where Lucy Westenra was attacked by the vampiric count.
It is the same view that Stoker himself would have seen, aside from one or two modern flourishes, over 125 years ago. Real history, of course, goes back much further. The earliest record of a permanent settlement is in 656, when as Streanœhealh it was the place where Oswy, the Christian king of Northumbria, founded the first abbey, under the abbess Hilda. The Synod of Whitby was held there in 664. In 867, the monastery was destroyed by Viking raiders...and in 1078 another one was built in its place.. now in ruins thanks again to - yes, you guessed it, the reformation when beautiful places like this were stripped bare by 'orrible Henry the 8th. However, all is not lost - there are lots of walls still standing and it's a most impressive sight.
Even though it's Monday - wishing you a happy day. Lovely shot by @dennisbromage (thanks to Dennis for the special permission to use!) 🇬🇧 To be featured, follow and tag us. 'Ta! 🇬🇧
