Sometimes we catch glimpses. Not the whole picture, but a sense that something is slowly taking shape. Maybe it’s that first twinge of dissatisfaction in something that’s gotten too comfortable, or a wild idea that comes out of the blue and actually sticks, or a pull toward something we’ve always felt but never trusted ourselves to follow (yet). We keep collecting glimpses and trying every which way to see how they might fit together and create our bigger picture, but there’s still too much in the way, or not enough to really go on. So we strive to honor and live in to the pieces we do have. We wait for the others, trusting that they will appear in their own time as we keep looking. Maybe there are clear skies ahead, maybe we learn to love the clouds too, and maybe we never even get the whole picture, but we see a lot of marvelous things along the way.

There’s a beautiful trail behind me and my heart was set on another hike today but my Dad was singing in his church choir. I’m rarely in town when his choir is scheduled to sing, so family first! ❤️ My hike can wait. Also my Daddy saaang as we say! His suit was on fleek too! 😂💁🏾♀️ Happy Sunday!
I had the best time honing my compass skills and hiking off trail with 24 other women from Girls Who Hike Maryland at Catoctin Mountain Park this afternoon. The weather was incredible! Is this really winter?!
Sit pretty is probably one of my favourite tricks to photograph 😍 It’s more difficult for larger dogs but consistency is key to build the ab strength! I remember when I first taught Kyro this trick he could barely hold it but now he can comfortably rock it for a solid length of time! What is your favourite trick you’ve taught your dog?👇🏻👇🏻

When in doubt, sprinkle in some bacon.
A healthy dose of colorful veggies (half a plate to be exact) with a boost of protein.
It looks different for each individual and their preferences and pleasures but in the end it’s veggies-protein and some sprinkles of carbs.
Super basic. Super simple. Super sustainable. #SimplySatisfied

This Catskills view never gets old. Taken at the summit of Panther yesterday afternoon.

UP UP UP… 🧗♀🎒🥾🏔️🌄 … we went until we reached the peak from Huayna Potosí at 6'088 m.a.s.l.
I had to hold back some tears of joy when we were rewarded by a beautiful morning mood high up in the Andes with a 360 degree view. You can even see the lights of La Paz.
Thanks to the good acclimatisation before we came up without any problems and were just happy.
What an unforgettable experience! #upupup#huaynapotosí#lapaz#bolivia#visitbolivia#discoversouthamerica#travellingwithbechterew

There’s something about exploring nature that opens you up and allows you to connect with yourself. Maybe it’s the realization of just how tiny we all are in the grand scheme of our planet (let alone the universe), maybe it’s the way a few days in the wilderness strips you down and pulls out the real, raw you, or maybe it’s the experience of such silence and vastness that feels like it gives space for all of your vulnerability and power to come out. Maybe it’s all of the above.

Climbing mountains, especially 14’ers, will forever be one of the most beautiful metaphors for life. I truly believe we are all in the process of climbing our own mountains. Sometimes it feels like the preparation stage as we gather the hiking essentials and other times it is summiting a mountain we thought we never could ☀️ No matter what, it takes courage, support, and perseverance. What mountain are you climbing right now? How can I support you to reach the mountain top? 😊 #soulfulsunday#choosemountains#liveyouradventure#whyihike#colorado14ers

Came across a family of lynx on the trail moving their litter from higher ground to lower ground. This is the male lynx who stayed behind to make sure the mother and kittens made it safely away from us.
Olympic downhill squat skiing was perfected by Nelia today as a whole lot of the trails were slick. Between losing the feeling in the ass-al area within 8 seconds of the trek and jumping unsuspecting snowmen in the middle of nowhere. To meeting an escaped convict (way more fun than just saying a scruffy dude on a nature walk) and investigating a sketchy ass trio in an even sketchier “tent”. From hopping fences and mildly trespassing to almost falling off a bridge (again not really.. just stumbling but WAY more fun to think I almost fell to my rocky demise). It was a really fun and sunny hike filled with laughter and light. 🙏🏻😁.

I actually needed a marshmallow this size.... num num num. Nothing like an outdoor adventure show to totally change the trajectory of your future 😂. God help me I needed the day to end this way. Thanks @ne7ia 🙏🏻❤️

Today’s hike we’d like to call “Distracted Toddler Squirrels in the Woods” 🤪. Peed ourselves when we looked at our map recording... like a couple of pinballs knocking back & forth. Serious “squirrel” mode. Plus Nelia fell on her ass which is always funny. Unless her ass is broke. Then it’s funny but then I gotta say sorry for laughing.... or do I? 😎😂

Need to pee yet? 😁💦

Mother Nature is awesome.... thanks @ne7ia for getting me off my ass for the prettiest winter day. Also Kleenex is a critical winter must have 🙄🙄😂😂

After an abysmal navigation screw up, a bitch of not 1 but 2 detours we finished (with a bonus 4 km 🙄🔫) another requirement for the Canada 150 Caledon Trail Badge. But how damn fabulous that it began in sun and snow and crispy fresh air. We officially know why layers are a must. Epsom salts are in my near future. Oh... and see those people down the road from Nelia ... they cheated. Just saying. Tsk tsk tsk 😂😂😂
I call this one the ghost of Deception Pass. Top right corner 😅

Bundled all the way up for yesterday’s jaunt up Mount Moriah! It was 11 below on the drive up to Gorham in the morning but once the sun was up a bit more, it warmed right up.
What a gorgeous day with incredible clear views of the northern presi’s!
Generally speaking, I absolutely hate being cold. In the past, I’d take a hot & humid 98 degree day over a cold on just about any day, but winter hiking has changed that for me. I was super skeptical at first about how badly I actually wanted to put on layer after layer, cover every inch of bare skin, and walk up a mountain for hours on end... When you put it that way, it sounds a bit crazy.
But then I got hooked. If you’re dressed accordingly with the right stuff, the elements simply blend in to the experience as a whole and help create the backdrop of beauty that the mountains have to offer. My focus shifts from “f*ck, that wind is brutal” or “holy crap, I can’t feel my fingertips” to how simply gorgeous it is up there. It’s a humbling experience, really.
I’m so grateful to have an outlet that allows me to be at peace, to let go of what’s heavy and simply be in the moment. These moments can be hard to come across; so embrace it. I won’t wait for the perfect conditions to do what I love - I won’t be letting a little wind or crisp temperatures keep me indoors. This applies to life too; don’t wait for the perfect time, but take what you have and make the best of it. ✌🏼
