Quan Thanh Temple was built during the Ly dynasty (1010–1225) and was dedicated to Tran Vo (God of the North), whose symbols of power were the tortoise and the snake. Good thing they were only selling baby turtles 😁
The temple is on the shores of Truc Bach Lake. On the shores of the lake is a monument to John McCain, who was shot down & parachuted into the lake in 1967. The Vietnamese say McCain recognized war is the best lesson for peace.
Tonight's occasion: 2018 Empathy Red by Empathy Wines (@empathywines) of the most notable Gary Vaynerchuck (@garyvee). Dark rich color. Full fruit forward nose with a lot of intense aromas. Intense berry, mild plum, draped over moderate oak and slightly mineral leather. Swirl and the leather momentarily releases an essence of wet forest floor.
Big jammy fruit forward body mirrors the nose. Dominated by berry and hint of plum. Minerality is more pronounced. You have to search for it but, hint of licorice takes the place of the wood. A black currant emerges towards the back. Just before a healthy dose of tannin begins the transition into a very spicy lasting finish.
The terroir in Stags Leap District is unique from other Napa Valley AVAs. With loam and clay sediments from the Napa River and volcanic soil from the Vaca Mountains, this complex soil composition is ideal for growing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon.
During the winter, cover crops and mustard flowers thrive, bringing life and nutrients between the vines.
A visit to our member wineries in the heart of the Stags Leap District brings this wintertime terroir to life. Where will you go? www.stagsleapdistrict.com

Stumbled upon a nice little tasting from @selectionmassale portfolio @flatironwines this evening featuring a wonderful white called Nosiola, indigenous to Trentino in northern Italy. (The only other Nosiola I tasted was by Elisabetta Foradori, their neighbor)
Noarna Castle, also known as Castelnuovo, was built in 12th century on the very grounds of previous fortifications dating back to Roman and Lombard times.
It’s located half way between northern tip of Lake Garda and city of Trento, along the River Adige.
The castle is with Zani family since 1970, crazy right!? Marco has been tending to his vineyards organically since 2008 and making wine in the castle cellars.
The vineyards are at 350m elevations with east/southeast exposure with soils composed of limestone, silt, porphyry, basalt and slate which gives the wine profound mineral backbone.
It has that fresh alpine quality with aromas of white flower and herbs, citrus and apple with hints of nuttiness, saline and crushed rock. Very bright and pretty yet complex and persistent on the palette.
I’m curios to taste their other bottlings - Teroldego, Lagrein, SauvBlanc, Salvanel white blend.. #winegeek#winetime#winetasting#winepairing#winestagram#sommelier#instawine#winepic#winetravel#foodandwine#sommlife#winewinewine#grapemagic#sommlife#nosiola#nogaredo#castelnuovo#selectionmassale

In a recent article written in @wine_spectator, Jared Etzel recalls how he received a call from Marc-André Roy, asking if he’d like to come back to the #WillametteValley to work on a new project, “only if I can find the right terroir,” he replied, and we are so glad that he did!
Jared found a site in the Dundee Hills AVA and there @DomaineRoy & Fils was born.
Join Jared on March 12th for the next culinary experience in our #Winemaker Dinner Series as Executive Chef, Chris Smith & our culinary team pairs a garden-to-table, five course dinner with Jared’s critically acclaimed wines.

Natureo is the fruit of long term research, placing Torres at the forefront of high quality de-alcoholised wine since 2008. Made entirely from Muscat, the wine is fermented and then the alcohol is carefully removed, thus preserving its full aroma and flavour.
Excellent as an aperitif, as well as paired with all kinds of fish, seafood and rice dishes.

Do you like Portuguese wines? We do, and we've got news!
HOLY CRAP I'm going to Portugal! One thing we realized after visiting South Africa was that US shelves didn't really reflect what was actually most exciting about the region. I have never been to Portugal, but I know many people who have, and they've had the same experience with how Portuguese wines are represented in the States. That is about to change.
There are wines that you can’t have enough🤨, so my lunch break during the busy week is accompanied by this succulent and thirst quenching beauty 🌸from Etna -

🍇Carricante mostly with a small % of Grecanico, Malvasia and Minella.
Skin contact for 3 days in steel tanks and refinement for 3-4 months. No filtration or clarification - and look at that wonderful color! 👏

Happy Sunday! I hope you all are sipping on something bubbly today! Wanted to share about the next event I’m attending! I’m getting so excited for the @worldofpinot 20th anniversary in two weeks. This is a yearly celebration of all things Pinot Noir (one of the main grapes of champagne). I had the best time last year and I can’t wait to go again this year! There will be over 120 producers at the Grand Tasting so there’s definitely a Pinot Noir to please everybody. There are tastings, seminars, and delicious food and it’s hosted @ritzcarltonbacarasb. This event is great for all #winelovers 🍷🍷 More information in the link in bio. I hope to see you there! 🍷
Done with WSET Level 2, but planning on pursuing level 3! In the meantime, I need to keep all the wine info fresh in my brain - so the wine facts aren’t going anywhere! 🍷⬇️
How cold is actually too cold to serve your white wine? While some people think the colder, the better - that’s not necessarily true! For some white wines, if it’s too cold, you won’t be able to smell and taste all of its aromas and the complexity it has to offer. ❄️🍏
Basic rules for chilling your whites, starting with the coldest:
—Sparkling wines = well chilled, 42 – 50 ̊F
—Lighter white wines = chilled, 44- 50 ̊ F
—White wines with more body or oak = just lightly chilled 50 – 55 ̊ F
The way we enjoy wine is always a preference, but try these chilling temps next time you serve your wine and see if you notice a difference! 🥂
