⭐️ Have you ever stayed in a hotel with your dog? How did it go?
🥰 We just came back from our #giftedstay with Bailiffscourt hotel and I wanted to share my experience on settling Vulric in new environments overnight. If you have any more tips, I would love to hear them!
🏃🏻♂️ Plan the arrival - Make sure your dog has had a nice long walk, is tired out and happy. I do believe a tired dog is a happy dog so make sure they have time to sniff, run and play before asking them to chill out in the hotel room. We went for a long walk on the hotel grounds and the beach.
🏠 Make the new room seem familiar - bring a few items that indicate this is a place of comfort. Many trainers recommend using a blanket at home, that you can take with you. I also find feeding Vulric in the room helps with this.
🧐 Let them explore - while Vulric will settle in a restaurant or office for hours, it’s a different story when we expect him to sleep through an entire night. I find letting him roam the place and sniff every detail, as well as pick out his own spot to rest helps (and then move the blanket to the chosen location). Some people insist on choosing the area to settle overnight, but I find Vulric picky and I’m sure he has his reasons for liking one corner and not another. Mind you he really wanted to sleep on the four poster bed, but that didn’t leave space for humans!
🍦 Help them self-soothe - provide a nice chew like a fallow antler, bring a Kong, lickimat or snufflemat with you... or if you’re lucky your hotel might even provide some of these for you! Bailiffscoirt Hotel has great chews and treats on order, include pig’s ears - natural, healthy and doggy-delicious.
📚 Finally, don’t forget to read the rules. Different hotels will have different expectations from their canine guests. Be courteous, kind and remember that bringing our dogs to stay in lovely places with us is a huge privilege, so make sure they are clean, quiet and well behaved with other guests (and the peacocks on the property in Bailiffscourt hotel’s case!)

Letting the boys get their mud wrestling on before another storm hits this week! The weather in SE Texas has been all over the place lately and playing outside has been a challenge. Ragnar and Floki are enjoying some sunshine!

🎩 Sir Vulric prepping for a relaxing bath after a long day of mischief...
🎁 #Gifted - Ever heard of a room with twin roll-top baths? We hadn’t dreamt of staying in such a sumptuous suite until we arrived at #bailiffscourthotel - a @hshotels .
🏰 This country escape is luxurious AND incredibly dog friendly. Vulric was welcomed with open arms, towels at the ready to clean muddy paws, treats awaiting in our suite and there is even doggy room service that includes food and toys. The property is set in a private parkland and 5 minutes walk from a dog-friendly beach where dogs can run for hours.
🤩 The room we are staying in is something else - the Baylies suite has a four posted bed, wood burner, vaulted ceilings... all will be seen in our stories today but I had to rush and share with you Vulric in this elegant bathroom.
🛁 He is such a water baby and so we were drawn to play in the tub as soon as we arrived! Does your dog like a bath?
“Caffeine up and let’s go already!”
☕️ Today I just want to give a little shout out to our local, hole-in-the-wall cafe called @brewandwild - staff is always kind, they make crazy concoctions like beetroot lattes and some super awesome vegan bakes... and despite there only just being space for him, they don’t mind Vulric staying inside while we order.

Delilah has started to look over Denver’s wall now 🤦🏻♂️
At 7 months old she becomes very inquisitive to what is where 🤣
Little does she know this will be short lived as that path she is on is going to be dug down to prevent her from being nosey 🤣
“No good sittin’ worryin’ abou’ it. What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does.” - Hagrid
My colleagues once announced to me I had Hagrid-like qualities, in the way I express affection and comfort with Vulric, despite his big teeth and wild ways. This made me laugh so hard, there isn’t a moment I think Vulric poses a danger to me, but I could suddenly see myself through the lens of others.
This morning I looked at quotes from Harry Potter books where Hagrid expresses his love for beasts to caption my photo. Instead I was immediately caught by another trait in his personality - his laid back kind of courage, that doesn’t waste energy fretting or seeking conflict but should he face it, will stand until the end.
I get so anxious about Vulric for things that haven’t even happened yet or ever - yesterday I caught myself in worrying whether he will eventually get grumpy with puppies as he gets older?!? Maybe I’ll try to get more inspiration from Hagrid and his ways...

It’s the “Sleeping-Self-Boop” !
Clearly the most comfortable sleeping position... with your back paw rested on your nose 🤪🤪🤪
Two opportunities coming up to meet handsome Vulric:
- 2nd Nov at the @nationalpetshow in Birmingham, come see us at the Czechoslovakian Wolfdog stand
- 17th Nov at the Walk With The Wolf tour in London, send us a message to book tickets. 📸 by @rexbygailfogarty

Dogs - we don’t deserve them...
🎆 It’s fireworks season, which is a bit of a nightmare for people who love dogs and animals - watching them get so scared and stressed, to the point that they die of heart attacks and all that for our entertainment...
😭 one story in particular shook me this year, a video of a guide dog in London that heard some bangs go off and refused to move any further. Many people were outraged highlighting such events can “damage” these animals who we spend years and north of £40,000 to train each, and then give blind people their independence.
🧨 The comment that really stood out to me pointed out the dog was not moving because it had decided this was the safest action for its human. Despite the handler desperately trying to pull him away, the lab would not budge. That poor animal, whose instinct would tell it to run and hide, stood its ground because it didn’t see a safer place for the human he is tasked to look after.
💔 This really broke my heart and I cried watching it and telling the story to my friend this morning. If you are looking to celebrate with fireworks, please consider finding another form to mark a special night or at least opt for the silent ones. Please also consider signing petitions for the ban of fireworks sale and boycott large firework displays.
Note: Vulric hears fireworks at home and doesn’t care but I’m painfully aware that’s not the case for many other dogs and certainly not for the wildlife including beautiful birds, hedgehogs, foxes...
