Remember: marketing is what companies use to bring you in. Don't let advertising slogans over ride common sense.
When paying out your hard earned money for an insurance policy that is supposed to protect you during an emergency / sudden / accidental loss of your property - consider these important things:
1) How much will this policy pay out if I actually have a claim? (Most of those internet sites that advertise savings, savings, and cheap insurance- automatically default to the lowest possible limits and leave out important coverages that protect YOU. They have a small link in case you want to add those coverages but if you don't know what they are or are only trying to get the cheapest rate you likely won't)
2) Do you have an actual person to call for help?
It is great to be able to do things online or with an app- but when s#!+ hits the fan- is there one singular person that you can call for help?
Better yet- sometimes you need a quick answer and calls are a pain. Can you text that person for an answer? Can you stop in? Is it a real person? Is it a call center overseas?
3) How often (assuming you don't change your cars, etc) can they change your rate?
Some of those online only companies don't lock you into a 6-month rate (or annual rate). Some have fine print that allows them to change your price monthly if that is how you pay your bill; which means you may never know exactly how much to budget.
Did you know that companies that DONT advertise about saving you money can often times provide you just as AFFORDABLE insurance as the ones that advertise the cheap insurance?
They just don't want to be seen as "cheap" insurance. Because they care more about making sure they cover your claim and risks.
Don't let marketing and advertising give you a preconceived idea of how expensive insurance is going to be with one company over another. You CAN have good coverage and a good price and a good agent if you want to.
