When we reached this spot, one of the hippos was standing on the edge of the river behind a bush. Neither of us could see each other. Suddenly, we heard a big splash next to us. The hippo probably heard our car and jumped.
Anticipating this group to interact with each other, we waited for some photo ops. For the next 20-25 minutes that we were there, at least one of the adult rhinos of the group kept a WATCH on us.

. “What could be a better way to start a new year?”, I asked my friends. They were #awestruck by the stories I had been telling about #goechala#trek . Honestly, I was trying to convince them for another #trek . This time @karthikrao27 and I wanted to explore #tungnath temple and #chandrashila . So I gave them the same #motivational speeches that @karthikrao27 had been giving me for a whole year. Luckily it worked on some of my friends: @mohit.raj151290 and Himanshu (they were equally motivated to get fit at the time), our gym trainer @sandeep_khatana (he wanted to test how fast he could climb the mountain so I turned it into a challenge by handing him over my luggage 😂), Karthik’s brother @sudharsan86 (he was with us on goechala trek) and my ex-colleague and friend @yogeshpacheria (he is motivated to travel to any place on earth whenever his wife’s out of town 😝). Our #delightful squad of eight was set for another #trek . We booked a #traveller (a mini bus) and travelled all the way to #chopta (a small village in #uttarakhand ). Our plan for next day was to hike to the top, find some #snow on the way to take some #excellent pictures (we had three #DSLRs with us btw), and then return to Delhi the same night. But snow Gods had different plans for us. They wanted us to experience a next level #adventure this time. While returning it started to #snow heavily. It was hard to #imagine what we were witnessing at the time. The trail had disappeared in front of our eyes like magic. It was like snow #genie had granted us our #threewishes (all of us).
Soon this moment turned out to be a scary one. In the middle of a #forest , when it was complete #dark out, our mini bus got stuck in the snow. The ice formation on the road was so huge, it took us four hours to cross two kilometers. There was no phone network at the time. We had no other choice but to #break the ice and make way for ourselves and our mini bus. The only tools at our disposal were a tyre replacement toolkit, and a few roadside #rocks .
Life in Anamalai’s ! With the last few fragments of the rainforest remaining , the giants who lost most of their habitat are forced to search food in the tea and coffee plantations. Here is the family grazing in a tea plantation on an fine evening. I was lucky enough to spend almost 30 mins with this family before they vanished to the next side of the hill. These both females where little bit cautious about our presence and often seen raising their trunk in the air sensing our presence. We didn’t get that initially ! Only Last few minutes of light remaining, a cracker sound from nowhere made the family alert and they started rushing. Only then we were able to see the calf which was so tiny, not even taller than the tea bush ! What an evening ♥️ It’s my second visit to Valparai and It was my long time dream to see these giants grazing in the tea plantations. What an experience ! Going back home with Vera level sightings of Leo , Hornbills , and Elephants ✨

Hope | So much of our natural world is under threat. From the fires in Australia and the Amazon, to rising oceans and loss of habitat, many species are at risk of disappearing. We can change this world for the better or worse, and if the animal species of the world are to not just survive, but thrive, their hope lies in us to change our planet for the better.
