Is there someone you know who has a story to share - someone who has shown up for their community or for the environment in a creative or inspiring way?
If so, we'd love to feature them in our Local Heroes Series. The series will be dedicated to the story and voice of a local hero in the communities around the world. Your hero could be someone who has founded an NGO, or an individual showing up for their community in creative ways, it could even be as simple as a grandmother cooking meals for other families in the neighborhood.
If you have someone in mind (maybe even yourself!) we'll need a photo and a description of that person, ideally by the end of the week. Send us a DM if you do!
Victory Tower, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, India.
The Vijay Stambha (Victory Tower) or Jay Stamba, is the symbol of Chittor and a particularly bold expression of triumph. Rana Khumba had been built this tower between 1458 and 1468 to commemorate his victory over Mahmud Shah I Khalji, the Sultan of Malwa, in 1440 AD. Built over ten years, it raises 37.2 m over a 4.4 m² base in nine stories accessed through a narrow circular staircase of 157 steps up to the 8th floor, from where there is a good view of the plains and the new town of Chittor.
I’m sure you’ve seen it all over the news at this point. Narratives of white cops being racist, that blacks are thugs and burned down businesses for no reason and the whole things a mess. This is not a racially charged post at all. -
I think the problem is much bigger than black vs white. In fact that shouldn’t even be a problem at all in 2020 but yet it is. When you look at great leaders like MLK JR his goal was not to create violent riots to make a scene after gross abuse. His goal was to unite in peace. Judge a man in character not on skin color. -
Because believe it or not the media and government have more to play in the racist narrative in America than any single human. One white cops actions do not define a race just like one black, or Mexican, or Asians actions. They are purely their own. However the media’s goal is to create controversy. To generalize. To manipulate opinions. To keep us separate. Because if we are warring each other, we will be blinded to the control they are enforcing. -
We need to step up. No matter race, gender, political affiliation or whatever and say enough is enough. We’re tired of being pitted against each other. If we are fighting each other we can’t fight the system that enables such things to happen. Separate we’re weak but together we’re strong and can change the course of how all people are treated in America. -
This past week has been filled with divide! Can we look to the stars and unite! Let’s press humanity forward into the ends of the universe! Tune into SpaceX launch steaming on YouTube. .
. You, the people have the power - the power to create machines
The power to create happiness!
You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure
Then - in the name of democracy - let us use that power - let us all unite
Let us fight for a new world - a decent world that will give men a chance to work - that will give youth a future and old age a security
By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power
But they lie!
They do not fulfil that promise
They never will!
Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people!
Now let us fight to fulfil that promise!
Let us fight to free the world - to do away with national barriers - to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance
Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness
In the name of democracy, let us all unite
When I first heard this quote, I didn’t believe it.
I had experienced this alleged “way” NOT appearing so many times. Why would it suddenly roll out for me? Why would anything ever be easy for me when it had been so hard?
I was trying to fit every circle into every square. Trying to make my job work, trying to make the relationship happen, chasing the guy, fighting to get the next promotion, seething with jealousy for everyone around me, trying to do and be everything to everyone.
The way can’t appear if you aren’t in alignment with your truth.
When I decided I needed to get out of New York and travel the world, I had no clue how I was going to make it happen. A few nights after this crazy idea popped into my head, I saw an Instagram ad for a remote work travel program. I applied. I got in. My tax return was the exact amount of the deposit. I asked my boss if I could work remotely. He said yes. I told my landlord I was moving and needed to break my lease. He said no problem and had someone ready to move in at the end of the month. A friend bartered with me for a storage unit.
That decision to travel the world was part of my sacred path. And so the universe literally rolled out the red carpet. After that experience, I believed this quote because I had lived it.
I see this happen all the time with my friends, my clients, with myself.
When we actually do the thing that feels good, that feels aligned, it’s easy. The right people, places and things magically appear. It doesn’t have to be any other way.
Can you remember a time when life just flowed for you? When “the way” appeared?
Let’s invite more flow into our lives. Comment or emoji that memory below!
