International travel (the greener grass) can outshine domestic trips (the grass perceived as not as green) because the concept of something foreign, or more foreign in contrast to the Midwest for myself, is more desirable to a hodophile seeking visual stimulation. The reality is that dromomania is the driving force and anything not familiar (the greenest grass) can satisfy the urges. The "American Southwest" is still a new thing to me and I've recognized that I've taken it for granted. Proximity may be the thin veil that's shrouded it's apparent existence but a breeze blew the cover away for a brief minute and now I can't forget what I've been overlooking.
This image is from our lengthy tour of the backcountry of the Southwest. We overlanded wherever permitted for days away from amenities other than what I fabricated from a design and execution of the modifications to the truck. All went well and a vast array of landscapes were witnessed all while away from anyone not my wife or dog. If we weren't using off-road trails or non-maintained "roads" through national forests and common land, we were in national/state parks or on the immediate road connecting us to the next route to desolation.

Millions of Americans are unprepared for the launch of the REAL ID program, which could prevent them from flying, according to the U.S. Travel Association.
A study conducted by the U.S. Travel Association revealed that nearly three out of four Americans are unprepared for the upcoming REAL ID deadline of Oct. 1, 2020.
The program, implemented by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is the last phase of enforcement of the REAL ID Act, the law originally passed in 2005 that will require travelers to present a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or other approved form of identification in order to board a flight.
As it stands, according to the study, millions of people could be prevented from boarding a plane because they do not have the required identification. According to the survey conducted for U.S. Travel by Longwoods International, a market research consultancy, 72% of Americans either do not have a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or are unsure if they do.
