Today we celebrated what would have been my dads 65th birthday. For the girls it meant having cupcakes for ‘Papa boo boo’ who they will never have the pleasure of meeting earth side. For me it is a day of reflection, of how I can keep his memory alive, creating traditions we can do as a family each year, and to retell stories of what a wonderful man he was. Look, I’m not going to lie, some of these moments I find so uncomfortable..not knowing what things a 3 year old will say to you regarding why they can’t see or meet him can always catch you off guard.. or should I even be discussing death or heaven?? But his memory and life was and is too important to me not discuss it, just because it might make me a little ‘uncomfortable’. I tried to keep things as light hearted as I possibly could and we all had a beautiful day together. We visited his ‘special rock with words on it’ as the girls would say, had cake at his favourite place, the place where I grew up. I look forward to seeing how this tradition adapts over the years when they start to really understand how precious life truly is.
I would love to know what special traditions your family has or ways you keep loved ones memories alive with your little ones?
