Sometimes It's Easy!
Today we had Lola in for her first session and they travelled a seven hour round trip all the way from Wales. When people are travelling this kind of distance to help their dog it makes lazy people seem even worse when they can't be bothered to drive half an hour to a good trainer.
Lola only had two issues really - The first is that she pulled badly on the lead, dragging her owners around meant walking wasn't fun, and the second was the same story I see almost everyday, she barked and lunged at other dogs.
There can be a bunch of reasons for this behaviour and its umbrella term is reactivity. It can be frustration, over excitement, nerve, fear, true aggression and unless you're very apt in canine body language then you're gonna struggle to read them.
Lola was nerve based excitement and I knew literally within five minutes of seeing her that this was going to be a super straight forward fix.
We taught her to walk on the lead perfectly in under ten minutes no issues at all and went to test it in the real world and she was marked by her owners an eight out of ten so that was a nice problem!
Then we moved onto her reactivity and tested her with Spencer and Flak here at the facility and she aced both tests. No barking, no lunging, nice engagement as you can see in the video.
Then the final and most crucial part of a lot of my training programmes was getting her out into the real world with her owners where they will actually live life. Too many trainers never test this aspect and owners get a nasty shock when real life comes back because behaviours were never proofed in externally based environments.
Lola was awesome, walking past pushchairs, dogs, bikes, walkers, geese, no issues at all!
His & Hers ....🐾
Fun Fact: the caption is completely true. The lovely Rottie on the left is Joe’s dog Nova🖤, and the handsome Dobie on the right is my dog (Victoria🙋🏼♀️) Thor 💙... we were hesitant to have the two meet as both of them are dominant and powerful breeds by nature ,but we were determined to make it happen. We introduced them slowly in a spacious environment at both homes, and made sure our loving vibes were constant and consistent with both dogs. Here were are today and now these nuggets can’t get enough of each other 🤗 swipe for double cutness!! besties for life👫
Finished! Rate this portrait from 1 to 10. This is my A5 portrait of the beautiful Stella. I love these small full body portraits. They are so lovely to draw and the trick is to keep your pencils super sharp!! Let me know what you think! 🎨 💗 🐾 🐶
