Charlie, my best investment 😉🥰🐶
I picked him up from the local pound for approx $300. Yes, there are ongoing expenses such as vet fees, anti-worming tablets, grooming, food and toys, but the joy he brings to my life is priceless.
I’m considering pet insurance because I know when he gets older, he’ll have more medical expenses. But it’s about $66 month if I want to include dental (which every dog needs) and I’m just not mentally ready for that yet. I think for the moment, I’ll continue to build up my emergency fund which I can use for him later on. I will reconsider next financial year.

No matter how well you look after your pets, they will probably require veterinary treatment at some stage during their lives.
Pet insurance is an easy way to cover unexpected and costly vet bills. We strongly encourage all pet owners to take out pet insurance.

“How’d you get Jet?”
“Well, we had another dog before him named Bosco, he passed away back in July. So he was an older dog, and we had gotten him back in like February.”
“That was a short run.”
“Yeah, very short run, he was a senior when we got him and then we only had him for a little bit, but then, the same people that we had gotten Bosco from, we had let them know. They were like, 'you know, I’m sorry to hear that he had passed.' And then they reached out to us and they were like, 'Hey, you know, we have a puppy, the same breed if you guys are interested, we’ll hold him for you guys.' And so we ended up driving all the way out, like four hours to some crazy spot in Indiana to get him, and yeah.”
“And how long has it been now?”
“About a month.”
“How is the process so far? You gettin used to it okay?”
“Yeah, we’re gettin there.”
“We haven’t raised a puppy together, it’s a different process. Bosco, he was very chill; Jet, he has a lot more energy.”

For Pet Insurance Month, we have invited families of insured pets to share their testimonials. Pet insurance helped Sammy's family choose the best course of care for him, when he suffered a debilitating knee injury. Sammy tore his cranial cruciate ligament (CCL), which is comparable to the ACL in humans.
The breakdown of costs was as follows:
Trupanion paid: $3575.01
Follow-up with surgeon: $232.00
Trupanion paid: $208.80
Trupanion paid: $106.73
Trupanion paid: $3890.54
Sammy's Mom says, "I love this insurance, because the claim is run through while we wait...That's a huge plus."
When a dog tears one CCL, there is a very high risk of tearing the other one in the future. While we all hope that doesn't happen, Sammy's family is glad to know that the second repair would be covered under the same deductible they already met! #petinsurance#trupanion#saugusanimalhospital
