16 - - From Garmisch we got a lift to Munich and by the time we got there the mountains were in the far distance, and our glorious scenery a dream, with a tiny fragment of it recorded in our camera. We got off outside Munich to get onto the Autobahn, and to avoid the town, but we had a heartbreaking walk for about two hours before reaching the autobahn, by which time it was 6 o’ clock. As a rule I like to be off the road by about 4 o’ clock but in this instance we had no choice. There were no hotels without going right into Munich, something we had tried to avoid.
Believe it or not, our luck held. We had been told that we wouldn’t be on the Autobahn 5 minutes before getting a lift, something we found hard to believe, the more so when we saw another half dozen or so people trying for lifts! However, in 5 minutes a small Volkswagen Minibus drew up, and offered us a lift to Augsburg, about 35 to 40 miles away.
The occupants of the car were two sisters, and the husband and young daughter of one of the sisters. The unmarried sister was driving: she could also speak good English as I asked her if she could drop us at a small place outside Augsburg where we could put up for the night. She said she would run us into Augsburg and drop us at a cheap hotel.
When we arrived – about 7:30 – we were amazed by what we got. A lovely bedroom, running hot and cold water, waited on hand and foot by waiters in dress suits – all for 1 pound, Chum. It was a little more than we usually pay, but considering the service, and the fact that we were dropped at the door – we were delighted.
Planning on going to one of Germany’s best medieval towns, Rothenburg Ob der Tauber?
This cute little town is popular among tourists, and can definitely get crowded during high season!
Our #traveltip is to stay one night in town. Most travelers go there for a day trip. So, to avoid the masses you can explore early in the morning of late in the evening. This way you can walk the streets on your own🙏🏼
Was steht noch drauf?
🇬🇧 🏃🏻♀🚶🏻♂With so much sweetness I drag Andrea to Essen🥰, a city that in a few years has transformed its grayness from a factory city to becoming the greenest center in Germany 🌳🌳.
The streets are animated by an infinite number of shops, extravagant people, groups of guys and street food kiosks.
Andrea, on the other hand, never revives😪.
