Running to get fit vs being fit to run.⠀
Running is a common form of physical activity that's easily accessible to most people, but we often hear things like "running is bad for you". Running itself is not a bad activity, but the way most people prepare themselves for running can be improved. Like any activity, running requires a certain level of tolerance and capacity in order handle the demands of the task. If demands of the task exceed the body's capacity then we might "run" into problems. To minimize injury risk, a combination of exercises and load management is required. Making sure the muscles are strong to handle the stress of running, and making sure the running volume is appropriate is essentially in minimizing injury risk. Here's one glut exercise that you can try to strengthen the body for running:⠀
1) Start standing on 1 leg with the same side hand resting on something for support and the other foot in the air. ⠀
2) With a slight bend in the standing knee, imagine a rectangular block from the shoulders to the hips and pivot around the standing hip.⠀
3) Open and close down the hips while keeping the standing knee pointed forward and the weight on the back heel.⠀
Pro-tip: for a harder challenge, try without support! (Just make sure you have better balance than me!) ⠀

Had a goal for quite a while now of running a sub 20 minute 5k. I finally ran a 5k or 3.1 miles at a 6 minute 26 second pace with a time of 19 minutes 56 seconds on the treadmill. So happy man this was tough, lock down goals!! I ain't ran that fast since I was 17. I know it ain't that fast to some people but its everything to me
The answer is, “Exercise or physical activity.” ... That alone was a good enough reason to keep it going today, Day 6 of the 41-day Runner’s World Run Streak. ... One foot in front of the other, one step at a time, right foot forward, out of the shadow into the light.

Bout time we Runners had our own Trading Cards. Personal ones we could tailor to ourselves and swap. Cards for our clubs and groups. Race and event ones you could earn. To paraphrase, gotta run them all. Would call them Stryder™️ Cards though I figure it could be done with an app and transferable electronically. If you virtually flipped them over you’d see additional badges earned, per se, on the back. Run the Goofy Challenge multiple times get multiple... um... goofy heads on the back of your card or some such thing. Love the idea, just have to build the app and enter into agreements with all major races. Easy peasy lemon breezy then I’m done.
Great book! I really didn’t want to stop reading this story. Very inspirational and so intriguing to peak inside the life of an Olympian who seems so down to earth and makes you wish you could be running buddies with her (if only I could keep an Olympian pace 😉).
It’s crazy how positive thinking had such an affect on her running.👍 🏃♀️ 🧠 😃
