Okay, so dogs don't have teenage years necessarily but they have a teenage phase and it's my least favourite phase of owning a dog because it's the most testing.
It's annoying because you've gotten your dog through the first year of their life. You poured time and effort into getting a near perfect recall, they have good behaviour around other dogs and you've got a degree of obedience. Then out of no where... BANG it appears everything has gone out of the window. You then realise your perfect little puppy is a big boisterous teenager.
Frey has hit the teenage stage. He's 15/16 months old now and is testing every bit of my patience. He's starting to learn his own mind and do what he thinks is best 🙄 regardless of instruction.
It's easy to feel a little disheartened and a bit miffed off but it's important to know that this is a PHASE. Your dog is testing you and you must be firm. The dog thinks he knows better but he doesn't. This is where all your training and obedience needs to become and expectation not a request. It's hard but worth doing as both you and your dog will thank you for it later.
Puppies can bring us so much joy and comfort – something we could all use more of! – but please “paws and reflect” before becoming a puppy parent during this uncertain time. We want to make sure that all puppies have a forever home when they’re added to a family!

If only people would actually read the patches.. 🙄 lol.
Today after our walk we quickly stopped at the shopping centre on our way home. It was way busier than I thought it would be (forgot it is a Saturday) and I had people whistle at and talk to Lily. I had a child rush at her with a pram (I don’t think it was aimed at her on purpose though) and then we encountered our first reactive dog INSIDE the shopping centre 😂. Luckily the dog only noticed us when we were far away - I didn’t even see the dog, I’m assuming it was being carried. But we were quite a distance away when it must have seen Lily because all of a sudden there was lots of yapping and barking in the distance, echoing through the shops. Lol.
Lily did great, she turned her head around and then looked back at me and just kept on walking. The pram spooked her a little bit and she got a bit distracted by the people talking to her but she refocused very quickly both times. She did so well for such a busy outing. #sdhandlerstruggles #adhandlerstruggles #dogstruggles
